How Does Porsche PDK Work?

Porsche Doppelkupplung is basically two gear boxes combined into one. With a double-clutch arrangement, an alternating, non-positive connection between the two half gearboxes and the engine is provided by way of two separate input shafts. Then, the flow of power is distributed via one clutch and one half gearbox at a time, all while the next gear is being preselected in the second half gearbox. This action allows Porsche PDK to change gears within milliseconds.

Gears one through six boast a sports ratio, while the top one or two gears, depending on your PDK, have a long ratio to enhance efficiency and keep engine revs low at high speeds.
